1.1 A Note on approach
These represent the notes I made during my reading of the
scriptural text for this lesson. It is not a lesson outline or a
lesson plan but really notes about issues and questions that struck
me as interesting during my reading. Consequently, the notes do not
have a conclusion and very little mention of application. I like to
let those things arise while I teach.

In today’s lesson, Ahab is the King of Israel (Northern
Kingdom). Let me back up slightly to the end of chapter 16 which
actually introduces Ahab and let’s see how the narrator summarizes

Reading: 1 Kings 12-14, 2 Chronicles 17,20

The reading this week covers the split of Israel into two
kingdoms. Jeroboam becomes the king of the northern kingdom (the ten
tribes) and Rehoboam becomes the king of the southern Kingdom
(Judah). These notes primarily highlight questions and thoughts
regarding the introduction of Jeroboam and Rehoboam.

is 2 Kings since the split of Kings into two book appears to be
artificial
